The Union Finley Messenger (UFM) prints a hard-copy newspaper with content specific to nearly two dozen municipalities in the Mon Valley region outside of Pittsburgh. The owner of the UFM wanted to put the newspaper online, and he wanted the online version to mimic the hard-copy version of his paper as closely as possible.
After settling on a design and a process for maintaining the online content, in 2010, the UFM went into production at www.unionfinley.com.
On a monthly basis, the UFM editorial staff and writers not only submit their articles for inclusion in the paper edition, but they also submit their articles for inclusion in the online edition. UFM staffers are given a login to the content management system, and each staffer uploads their monthly articles.
One staffer, who is in charge of conventions and consistency, reviews the articles and publishes them when they finally meet the standards for pubic viewing.
Approximately 85 articles are upload to the website each month with associated photo galleries. The entire process for refreshing the site with new content each month takes place in about 48 hours.
