Pleasant Hills' borough Web site not only is popular with residents, but now has received recognition on a state-wide level.

The borough placed second in the Pennsylvania State Boroughs Association Municipal Web Site Contest in June. "I thought it was notable that we were second in the over-7,500 (residents) category, because we were competing with the largest boroughs throughout the state," council Vice President James Funkhouser said. "I am glad that all of council supported this project, which I believe has a positive impact on Pleasant Hills, and I'm excited that I could play a small part of it."

The Website, http://www.pleasanthillspa.com/, was created in October by Charles Maiden, a borough resident and Web designer for Data Blueprints, LLC.

The borough's Web site received a second place award in its division for communities of 7,500-plus residents at the 97th Annual Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs Conference last month.

The Web site was judged on its content, clarity and effectiveness and layout and design. It was revised in October 2007 to make it more user-friendly and up-to-date, said Borough Manager Deborah Englert.

The new site was designed by Pleasant Hills native Chuck Maiden, who owns the Web application development company, Data Blueprints. Mr. Maiden has also designed Web pages for Tarentum and Brentwood boroughs.

The Information Age has arrived in Tarentum, at least where municipal government is concerned.

The borough now has an Internet site to provide residents, visitors and prospective businesses information about the community and its government. Borough Manager Bill Rossey said the Web site has been operating for about two weeks. The new Web site address is www.tarentumboro.com.

It is only one of a few Web sites operated by municipalities in northeastern Allegheny County.

Harrison, O'Hara, West Deer and East Deer townships and Plum and Fox Chapel boroughs are the others in the region.

"I've been working on it probably for six months," Rossey said.

He said the design and construction of the site was done by Chuck Maiden of Data Blueprints in Pleasant Hills.

The PROWL Job Index, formerly known as the Pittsburgh Job Index, has been in operation since 1997. Data Blueprints engineered the Pittsburgh Job Index and sold the application to the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance in 2001.

In the 9 years that the PJI has been in operation, it has been mentioned in the media, and those occurances (that we know of) are listed below.  The PJI was retired by the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance in 2007.
